My Paleo Journey

Robin's paleo progress
A year ago this month I was challenged by a friend to try the Paleo diet. What started out as a 30 day challenge turned into a year long lifestyle.
I never knew how much it would change my body and how fast it would change. I have been able to see drastic results not only in my body but in my health. I no longer have headaches, joint pain or stomach issues. It has changed my life in such a great way. I realized that I was gluten intolerant. I also realized that I could work out half as much as I use to and get better results. They say that “abs come from the kitchen not the gym” and I truly believe it.

I am so blessed to have other people join me in this challenge and they too have seen drastic results. I no longer miss the gluten. I feel so good and at 30 I am in the best shape of my life.

I challenge you to try the 30 day paleo challenge. I promise it will change your life! Below I have attached the grocery list for week one and two as a guide. Week three and four are left for you to do since you are learning how to live paleo! I believe you can do it :)

Hey Robin- I started the challenge today (so far, so good ;)). I’ve got plenty of motivation and support to make it through the challenge, but I’m a college student so I’m pretty tight on funds. I’m just wondering if you have any tips on saving a little bit of money grocery shopping. Thank you! –Lauren

Eating healthy costs more. I’m sorry. I have had to make changes to other areas of my life to cut costs down. The thing is …. IT IS 1000% worth it. I have posted tons of new recipes on my food part of my blog and on my instagram. This might be able to help you as well

Hi there! I’m starting your paleo diet but I have a peanut allergy. Do you have any other recommendations/or recipes to substitute for the Larabars?

I’m sorry to hear about your peanut allergy but you are not allowed to eat them any way. I do not eat Peanuts.

Hi! My 15 year old daughter and I are on day 7 of the Paleo challenge. It has been AMAZING. I have always shied away from “diets” thinking it would just be too hard! This has been so simple to follow, and I am definitely thinking of it as a lifestyle change. Exercise is not the problem for me, it’s always been the food since I like the junk too much, Crazy thing is I haven’t craved any junk at all. Thank you for all the details. I am excited to shop for week 2 today. I am concerned that week 2 will be harder, since the first time I really felt hungry was last night and this morning. I don’t want to cheat! Any suggestions for that – feeling hungry but have already had the snack? Also, my daughter definitely does not need to lose weight. She stays very active dancing 5 days a week. Do you think the 30 day challenge provides enough calories for her? Here we go starting week 2… I am a little nervous but excited. Really hoping I can finally shed this 10 pounds I have gained over the last few years- and keep it off for good!!!

I love that you are doing this with your daughter. I would like to start out with her. If she dances 5 days a week. Then I want her eating more food. I want her to have more snacks throughout the day. She should never be hungry! She also needs lots of dark greens. I am going to tell you how excited I am that she is doing this for several reasons. She is going to see muscle immediately, she will also become more flexible. I can not wait to talk to her at 30 days! Now for you. If you are hungry EAT!!! Eat clean. Add tons of dark green veggies into your day. I eat so much spinach you would think I own stock in it. I also eat tons of fish like salmon and tuna. This is so important for both you and your daughter. You need good fats and proteins. Please keep asking questions. Can not wait to see your results!!!!!

Hi Robin! Your transition is very inspiring! I enjoy healthy eating and exercise, and I want to be cleaner and leaner. I have some questions… 1. What do you think about dairy? Fat free greek yogurt has been a staple in my diet. 2. Any thoughts about snacks? I feel concerned that I’ll feel starved when I read your challenge. I do about 45 min of the elliptical 5-6 days a week and weights 2-3 days a week too. 3. Last, do you count calories? I always tend to, and as a 5’0 ft. female, I feel that my smaller frame doesn’t allow for much forgiveness, which is why I end being diligent with numbers. Also, regarding peanut butter is the kind without hydrogenated oil or okay or no? Thanks a million!! Thank you SO much for laying out your plan–a day to day plan like this is what I’ve been needing for motivation to finally make a greater change.

Hi Talia, Thanks so much for reaching out and I am glad we can talk through some of your questions. Lets start at the top! Dairy is not Paleo, sorry but that yogurt has to go if you want to do the challenge. You can replace it with some great breakfast quiche. If you are hungry then you eat, that is how it works. If you are going to work out that many times a week you should not be counting calories, in the end if you are starving your body you will starve it from seeing any change in your body. Also Peanuts and Peanut butter is out! Feel free to sub in Almond or Sunflower butter.

Thanks so much for all the time you spent putting this blog together and all the time you take to answer all these questions! I am gearing up to start the challenge. I just recently got a treadmill and have been trying to get ready for some races this summer. Just wondering if my time spent on the treadmill can replace any of the workouts you have listed to do each day, or if I should try to fit it all into my schedule? I have a lot of weight to lose and am working my way up to becoming a runner. So far I am more of a speed walker/ jogger (in intervals). I am spending about 45 min. a day (5 x per week) walking/jogging in intervals. I know doing both would be best and get the fastest results but if I don’t have time for both the treadmill and your suggested workouts which would you say would be best to do? Thanks again!

Wow you are actually stumping me with your question and here is why… I use to own a tread mill I ran/walked/jogeed/ flew into the back of my wall (really), When I started the 30 day paleo challenge I was challenged to give this up. I was like “your crazy” but I did. I started different workouts and added weights to all these exercises that I posted. My results were shocking. I HATE TO RUN. I HATE WHAT RUNNING does to WOMENS bodies. It breaks them down so much. Now with that being said I have several best friends who run marathons. They have all been paleo for years and lift very heavy weights. Running is a tricky thing. I have fights all the time with it. If you really want to see results. Grab weights and add them into each exercise. The heavier you go the better definition you will get. Please let me know your thoughts Talk to you soon

I have been eating “paleo” for about a year now. I’m not as strict as I was in the beginning but have decided to do your 30 day challenge to get a jumpstart. Is it ok to substitute foods in the beginning? I didn’t have any tuna so I ate chicken instead. How important is it to stick exactly to your menus? Can I eat as much vegetables as I want during meals? (Paleo allowed vegetables) Can I substitute a Lara bar instead of an apple? I really want to do everything right.

Hello Robin, Thanks for sharing. This is extremely helpful. I do not do well with eggs in the morning. Can I drink a protein smoothie instead?

Hi Sassy, I would stay away from protein powder. Generally they are made from Whey and Soy protein which are not Paleo, if eggs are not the best for you in the morning try Banana Pancakes or Paleo Muffins. Take a look at the Food section under my blog. xoxox

Thank you for writing me. NO SUGAR FREE Anything. It is made with tons of chemicals. You can have coffee but use almond milk to sweeten it! You can have 2 a day but please try to drink lots of water.

Hi Robin, just wondering if the recipes can be substituted for any of your other paleo recipes or is it set up this particular way for a reason? I am a college student so sometimes I just have to use what is on hand. Thanks!
